TOEFL Test Preparation

"Get Ready for TOEFL iBT”

Are you planning on taking the TOEFL iBT (Internet Base Test) soon?

With the help of our comprehensive TOEFL iBT preparation course, students will improve all necessary language skills, work on developing better preparation strategies, learn what kinds of topics to expect and how to best address them, and discover which patterns of writing and speech best to avoid.

Our experienced instructor will guide students through all four sections of the test: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Over six weeks, we will devote a two-hour session to every question type within each test section, so that by the end of this course, students will be ready to face the TOEFL test successfully and without any surprises. Practice and review materials will be based on authentic past TOEFL iBT questions and essay topics.

Classes will be held in a group setting, but students are encouraged to schedule additional two-hour one-on-one sessions with the instructor to practice their weaker test sections in depth. One-on-one sessions will be scheduled with the instructor as needed individually.

APPROACH: This is an interactive program to improve all necessary language skills for TOEFL iBT: reading, listening, listening, speaking, and writing. We offer the course in small groups and individual settings.

PLANNING: We will devote a complete session to every question type within each test section so that by the end of this course, students will be ready to face the TOEFL test successfully and without any surprises. Practice and review materials will be based on authentic past TOEFL iBT questions and essay topics.

TECHNIQUES: The program focuses on teacher-student and peer interaction. Tasks and activities in the classroom range from lectures, guided exercises, grammar structures, and writing strategies.

Reading Skill Improvement

  • Reading training and practices to ensure quick and accurate comprehension of the subject matter.
  • Training in reverse outlining, targeting of important points, subjects, and events in Reading texts. Main ideas, Supporting Ideas, Connecting Words/ Transitions, etc.
  • Testing in reading comprehension.
  • Focuses on time management.
  • Grammar comprehension exercises and training.
  • Vocabulary studies to increase comprehension (focused on TOEFL test vocabulary levels). Includes Synonyms and Opposites suggested by TOEFL.

Listening Improvement

  • Active and passive listening/ awareness training.
  • Academic situations familiarity practices and vocabulary.
  • Identify intent and organize data appropriately for a response.
  • Decern between opinion, inference, fillers, etc.
  • Signal word and digression identification training.

Speaking Guides and Training

  • Pronunciation and grammar training centered on TOEFL requirements.
  • In-class opportunities for discussion, advancing student skills in both listening and speaking.
  • Guided speech practices with pertinent reflection and correction.

Writing Skill Improvement

  • Academic writing skills training includes APA (American Psychiatric Association) writing requirements.
  • Learning vital sentence structures, such as contrasting and connecting, to aide in clarity and fluency in writing.
  • Short summary writings of classroom topics to be graded and discussed in the classroom to strengthen the necessary skills.
  • Grammar being applied as a central skill in the course.
  • Training in organizing writings to ensure the best impact and clarity of ideas.

MATERIALS: The Official Guide to the TOEFL test

COURSE DURATION: Group classes meet twice a week for six weeks for a total of 24 hours of instruction. Students are encouraged to schedule additional one-on-one sessions with the instructor to practice their weaker test sections in depth. Private classes are also available.
